WhatIWore: What’s better than an October Sunday morning hiking with your family? Nothing! Adam, Felix and I drove out to Yellowwood State Park for a loooooong (3 hour+) hike yesterday and it was gorgeous. Chilly, perfect fall weekend weather. A lot of people might think Indiana is a flat farm state, but southern Indiana actually has awesome state and national parks with really great trails. It’s not the Rocky Mountains or anything, but it can be a nice challenge! We Quirks really love our time in the woods!

On these kinds of mornings I don’t really plan an outfit out or anything. I asked Adam “what should I wear?” and he told me to go with something “cute and outdoorsy.” This is what I pulled together. Hiking boots, a beanie, jeans, a plaid button down and a funky hoodie. Works for me!

When: October 11, 2015

What:
Beanie: Denim and Supply Ralph Lauren, gift
Sunglasses: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’ in crazy tort
Plaid Button down: J.Crew Factory (similar styles here)
Sweatshirt: Old Navy Active
Jeans: J.Crew Factory
Hiking Boots: Lowa ‘Renegade’*

On Felix: Sweater and Pants, Target, Shoes, Spierry

Where: Yellowwood State Park

*A note on the boots: These have taken me many many miles of trails - and I’ve had them for three years. I totally recommend them!

One last random note: while hiking, I thought of one of my favorite what would you rather? questions. Would you rather have a lifetime as a tree, firmly rooted in one place or never spend two nights in a row in the same place?

Do you have any good would you rather? questions? We love to play around the campsite and I’d love to crowdsource some good ones from you guys!

What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: On Sunday I felt well enough to get up and out of the house and my family had such a beautiful morning together picking apples! We drove north to Anderson Orchards, which I highly recommend if you’re in central Indiana (it’s just west of Mooresville).  See our pics from apple picking last year here.

The Quirk family likes to get out the door as early as possible, so from the time we wake up to getting in the car - it’s just about 20 minutes. (This is also kind of necessary if you want to eat breakfast out because the crowds start showing up around 9 or 9:30 and then you’re waiting foorrrreeeevvveeeerrrr for your pancakes!)  Adam usually gets Felix ready to go while I throw on my clothes and off we go! I’ve been waiting for the right chilly morning to break out my new brown boots (so comfortable!) and I just finished this hat! I’ve been dragging my feet on hat making, primarily because my supplies and workstation are upstairs and it’s just easier to knit or do handwork in the living/playroom with Felix downstairs.  Adam insisted on some daddy-son time Saturday morning (and by insisted I mean, he knew mommy wanted to have some time to get creative on her own) so that’s when I finished this beauty. I really love it!

When: September 20, 2015

What:
Hat: Stars and Field
Shades: Karen Walker in Crazy Tort
Sweater: LL Bean Signature
Belt: Thrifted
Bag: Frye
Jeans: J.Crew
Boots: Ugg Australia

Where: Breakfast at the Village Deli and Apple Picking at Anderson Orchards

This round crown, floppy brim hat is made of rabbit hair velour and woven leather banding. Inside it has a petersham band that was handsewn in. I normally put wiring into the brims, but this design worked nicely left alone. I hope to list this style in my etsy store soon as a custom order if you’re interested!

WhatIWore: Happy Birthday dear Felix! You’re one!! Yesterday we celebrated with our friends and family at our house and it was a wonderful party! (Photos and details to come!) Outfit wise, I went with a combo I’ve already worn and loved (first here). And if you think I’m the kind of mom that wears something to match the decorations so the pictures will be even more coordinated…you’re right. On Felix, we did a simple onesie with an iron on monkey patch to go with his theme. Believe it or not, he wore that hat the entire party and looked so. freaking. cute. toddling around the house in it. He is the light of our lives. We love you Felix boy!

WhatIWore: Look who’s twinning it up today?! I saw this Indiana state flag onesie in the window of a local boutique and thought he’d look really handsome in it and then saw the women’s version and bought it for myself. Don’t we make a cute couple?

I really like pairing graphic tees with more feminine skirts. It’s still an easy kid-friendly outfit (as long as you’re not crawling around all over the ground) but more than jean shorts and a tee (which I do wear quite regularly too). We wore these outfits yesterday morning for a walk, a mommy-son breakfast date and then to baby hour at the library. Oh! And Felix took about 6 steps to me and I could have just started bawling in front of everyone. This lil guy is growing up too fast!
