Inspired By | Rainbow Brights

Who’s had a dose of springlike weather lately? Man! It’s getting me so excited to switch over my closet and start some spring shopping! 

One trend I’ve picked up on are rainbow brights. They remind me of a scene from SATC when Carrie gets caught in the rain. It’s one of the more memorable looks from the series for me! Rainbows also kind of throw me back to the days of getting a Delia*s catalogue in the mail in the late 90s (they’re still around, in case you were wondering). These modified rainbows also have a vintage appeal that I really like! 

I don’t think you need the ROY G. BiV spectrum, in fact - I kind of prefer rainbow stripes that are a variation of the classic. Above all, it’s the cheerful brightness that gets me excited. 

My favorite piece is this sweater from Free People, but I’m going to hold out for a sale. I think it would be perfect on a gloomy spring day with a rain jacket or my upcoming family beach trip with white shorts!

Also: Can someone knock off this tote so I can afford it? Pretty please?

Inspired By | Blond Ambition

Mama needs a new ‘do. I’ve been progressively adding more and more highlights with each salon visit and I want to go with a) even more and b) even lighter. I realize this is high maintenance, but my salon is right down the street and I actually think it’s wise for new moms to schedule in time for self care. If it’s not on the calendar, it’s less likely to happen (at least in my world!)

Length wise, I’m aiming somewhere between chin and collar bone. I’ll just go with what my stylist thinks would look best on me! Above are the photos I’ll take with me to my appointment! It’s not scheduled for another week, so I have a little time to think about it, but I’m really excited to take on something a bit more edgy!

Inspired By | Pale Pink Coats

WhatIWore: I can’t say I love getting ready in the winter (or taking outfit photos in sub freezing weather!!) but I am excited to move more of my closet back into rotation after our daughter is born. I’m in absolutely no rush to fit into a certain size, but it will be nice to button my coat again! I actually popped a button off my peacoat over the weekend. it’s getting pretty crowded up in here! 

That coat actually got me to thinking - my basic coats - the wool black and navy versions are styles I’ve had for years. I want to stress that I don’t think you need a new coat every year - and if you care for them well, you should be able to wear the same one for ten years (I’m getting close with my classic long black coat!). That said, I have been inspired by some pale pink versions lately, so I made up a little inspiration board in case I just happen to find one that’s just the right shade of blush. I really like the nubby textured fabrics too. Is it too much to make a birthday wish for a vintage version? We’ll see! In the meantime, I’ve tracked down some buy-now styles below.

Inspired By | Chunky Knit Hats

WhatIWore: Sure, it was in the high 70s this week, but my knitting circle is starting back up on Monday and I’m ready for a quick project! I really love beanie season - it means I can get away with washing my hair less and knowing that I’ll be a mom of two with a newborn in tow - that’s a big time saver for me!

I’m going big on this one! I want to use a mega chunky yarn in some sort of cable knit for this project. I see it in a heathered gray (if I can find it!) with either a giant pom or fur on top.  These images I gathered on Pinterest have sparked my creative fire! 

If you’re a knitter or crocheter, I’m sure you have something like this in your queue. Otherwise, there are tons of options that are ready made and at every price point. I also like etsy for handmade goods and supporting other craftspeople! I’ve picked out some options below!
